Let’s discuss a calm, happy, and leisurely topic such as weekend plans with your family. Including grandparents can make a family outing (or an at home activity) all the better! There are so many things that seniors can still do for enjoyment with their children and grandchildren.
Here are a few suggestions to try…
~Family Game Night: This can be fun for even the youngest family members, who may enjoy games such as Candyland, Monopoly, etc. For a more competitive game night that will appeal to older kids, try games such as Scrabble or Battleship. Consider making this a recurring family event and order takeout to make the mood more festive!
~Family Movie Night: Vegging out as a family is an easy, low-key way to spend time together. Ask everyone to make a list with three of their favorite movies and television shows. Then, pick one of each to watch at family movie night.
~Family Book Club: Reading is great for everyone! Try planning a monthly family book club. Older members can read stories to children who don’t yet read. Then, after everyone has read the book, you can have a family discussion about the story. You may even want to try doing a family craft based on the tale. Make sure every family member gets a chance to suggest a book they adore!
