Healthy Resolutions for Seniors

As we enter 2022, it’s definitely the time of year to institute your resolutions or intentions.

Here are some ideas, if you want to implement them for yourself…

1) Eat more nutrient-dense foods: You need fewer calories with aging, but just as many nutrients. Eat more nutrient rich fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, beans, nuts, and seeds. Also consider consuming less sugary drinks and desserts, plus white bread and pasta made from refined grains.

2) Do a variety of physical activities: Older adults can benefit from doing four types of activity regularly. These include activities for endurance, strengthen muscles, improve balance and increase flexibility. Some examples entail walking, swimming, or yoga.

3) Stimulate your mind:  Challenging your brain to learn something new through a community class, book or movie club, or photography group. Lifelong learning helps build cognitive reserve, resilience, and the ability to cope with stress.

4) Engage in the arts: Participating in the arts through music, painting, writing, dance, or theatre can help to stimulate people in unique ways that bring cognitive and mood benefits.

Now, if you already have one of these resolutions, we’d love to hear how your doing so far! However, if you happen to need some motivation, then please feel free to join our senior community to connect and communicate with others. That way, you’ll be able to get support along your intention journey.
