We’ve already talked about how canines are superb companions for seniors, especially those that are extroverts. However, let’s not discount felines for seniors. They can be a senior’s best friend, especially if you’re an indoor type of person.
Cats can be very calming and can bring great joy and laughter to seniors. Cats provide a host of additional health benefits such as helping to lower blood pressure, reduce cholesterol, relieve stress, and improve anxiety. Basically, felines for seniors can make you feel mentally, emotionally, and physically better!
Compared to dogs, cats are relatively low maintenance pets. An indoor cat doesn’t need to go out, nor do they need walks to tire them out. They’re easily entertained by toys, and a kitty litter tray is exceptionally easy to keep clean. All they ask for is a warm lap, where they are content to simply being near their owners, purring and being petted.
Now, even though kittens are adorable for young families, your best bet when helping to choose a cat for a senior is to adopt an adult or senior feline. These cats are just as sweet and loving as kittens, but they have already been trained, have less energy, and already have established personalities. Besides, older cats usually have a harder time finding a forever home.
So, if you have any pictures that you would like to share with us we’d love to see them! However, if you happen to have some questions about others experience with cats, then please like us on Facebook. That way, you can read our posts and join our senior community!
