Springtime gardening can be really fun, but a challenge at the same time, especially when you have arthritis and flexibility to consider. However, there are many ways to make this experience much more comfortable.
Let’s discuss the different options you could purchase…
Handled Tools: Garden tools often come in two forms, hand-held or long-handled. The hand-held hoe requires you to get on the ground or use a kneeler bench to bend down. Whereas, the long-handled tools can be operated from a standing position. Now, in order for these tools to be effective for seniors, compacted soil should be avoided. Potting soil is much softer and your best bet to plant.
Garden in Raised Beds: There are quite a few tables available, but a salad table is the most convenient. It optimizes your space, can be set up on a balcony, and brings your vegetables up to a comfortable height. No matter how restricted you are in your movements, a salad table can make gardening for seniors easier.
Go Vertical: There are many different designs of wall-mounted plant pouches and self-watering planters you can buy or DIY. These can be used inside or outside. They can be planted with things you can use in small containers including vegetables, or you can stock them with succulents ferns. The sky (or your ceiling) is the limit when it comes to ways to springtime gardening!
