We’ve been out of the loop for a while now, but we’re ready to educate you once again! Let’s start by discussing medication safety for seniors.
Now, there are a few quite a few at home ways to have the best management, and tose tips include…
Make sure medication is properly stored: In general, medication should be kept in a cool and dry location. That means the bathroom cabinet is not a good place to keep meds because moisture and heat can affect drugs.
Create and maintain a medication list: It’s important to have an up-to-date list of not only medications, but vitamins, supplements, and over-the-counter drugs as well.
Pre-sort for the week: Staying organized is essential to good medication management for seniors. Using a pill organizer allows you to help your older adult pre-sort their medications for the week. The best type of pill organizer for your older adult is one with enough compartments for every dose they’ll need throughout the day.
Double check for drug interactions: Make sure to check interactions your doctor and pharmacist.
Set up a reminder system: Create a chart with the medication name, dose, day, and time. As each dosage is taken, record it with a check mark.
